There’s a lot of noise being made about internet telephony, so why use it ?

Every day more and more people all over the world are getting better and faster connections to the internet. Using the internet to make your phone calls is an attractive proposition as you can chat for free or very cheaply to anyone in the world whatever time of day!

Say you’ve got an Auntie Monica in Costa Rica well you have got two choices: if she has a computer connected to the internet you could get her to download a piece of software (for free). You also download the same software, and providing you have the correct hardware i.e a USB phone, headset or microphone, you can talk until the cows come home - for absolutely nothing!

OK, so Uncle Monty in Montreal hasn’t got a computer? Well,l you can ring his normal landline or mobile using the software you downloaded for next to nothing!

OK, first step is to download the software. There are a range of Service providers (called ITSP’s) that offer free chat. There’s tons that offer cheap calls to landlines. Check out our service providers section for details and rates on these. We particularly recommend Skype for it’s ease of use, and because well it just works!

Next you are going to need some hardware. Check out our range of USB phones, these will generally offer you a better sound quality over headsets and individual mics, but take your pick! Also check out our range of webcams to add that visual experience! You can use programs such MSN® Messenger, AIM®/AOL® Instant Messenger™ (AIM), Yahoo!® Messenger, or Windows® Messenger.
